Fraction Challenge Results!

Early in April Mrs. Lindberg's math class gave us a fraction challenge. This challenge can be see in the a post below. I have finally gotten around to posting our results to these questions:
  1. What fraction of students are girls?
  2. What fraction of students are wearing jackets?
  3. What fraction of students are wearing white? Blue? What is the sum of these fractions?
  4. Name 2 equivalent fractions for 1/2.

3D Christmas

Right before break our math class worked on the elements of 3D shapes! We decided to decorate our classroom tree.... and it turned out beautifully! :) The students did a wonderful job building very tough shapes such as cones, pyramids, cubes, and cylinders.

Our Math Challenge Results for Mrs. Lindberg's Class

Mrs. Lindberg's class challenged us to create bar graphs by collecting data on our favorite sport: soccer, volleyball, football or basketball. Our class gathered the data shown in the picture to the left. Soccer (10), volleyball (10), football (5), and basketball (1).

We then began to create our bar graphs which included the following items: title, scale, labels, and data.

When our graphs were complete, we answered the following questions:
1. How many people voted in all?
26 students voted in all.
2. Which sport was the favorite?
Soccer and volleyball tied at 10 each.
3. How many people like soccer and football all together?
15 people liked soccer and football in all.
4. How many more people liked football than baseball?
4 more people liked football than baseball
5. Based on the results of the graph, what did you learn?
I learned that soccer and volleyball got voted more than football and baseball.

We really enjoyed our math challenge and look forward to the next one. Please post a comment with any questions! :)

Math Magic!

This week my math group continues to blow my mind! They have been rock stars in learning and applying multiplication strategies. Today they successfully whizzed through our practice session and we were able to play a fun game on the Smart Board.

For those of you who might be looking....here is a great link to teaching multiplication, practice methods, and interactive games!

Way to go 3rd graders! You make me proud!
