What a bunch of Turkeys!

This is hilarious! I brought in two turkey legs for my science group to explore... they thought it was the coolest thing until it came time to touch them. Ha ha kids. Gotta love them!

K-9 "Kraziness"

Earlier in the year we read the story "Areo and Officer Mike". This story tells about how a police officer works side-by-side with his K-9 dog. At the time we read the story, our school resource officer came to talk to us about his job and how dogs are used in the police force. This week, the K-9 officers were able to bring their dogs for more conversation and demonstration. This was a great way for our students to connect with their community.... they absolutely loved it!

Dinosaur Ridge

This years field trip was to Dinosaur Ridge. Here our students were able to show their knowledge about dinosaurs, fossils, and rock layers. Our tour guides told us many facts and showed pictures, maps and artifacts. The kids had a blast and we came home with a few future paleontologists!

Grocery Getters

My math students have been hard at work solving real world problems. This week our focus has been on the grocery store and how to calculate prices with fractions and discounts. For this activity my students used a weekly King Soopers ad to find discount totals. This was a super fun and engaging activity!

Main Idea Madness

My Favorite Jacket

I love my jacket because it is very soft. It has fur inside and makes me cozy and warm. I take it almost everywhere I go. It is black with peach colored stripes. I have been wearing it for almost two years and I still love it a lot. One day my mom gave me a different jacket to wear. I told her no I didn't like the other jacket. I took my favorite and put it on and went to school. My jacket feels like a friend to me. When I misplace it I won't stop looking for it. When it doesn't fit me anymore I will give it to my little brother. Whenever I wear it I con't stop thinking about how warm and comfortable it is!

What is the main idea of this story? (Who or what, did what, why or how)

Our Math Challenge Results for Mrs. Lindberg's Class

Mrs. Lindberg's class challenged us to create bar graphs by collecting data on our favorite sport: soccer, volleyball, football or basketball. Our class gathered the data shown in the picture to the left. Soccer (10), volleyball (10), football (5), and basketball (1).

We then began to create our bar graphs which included the following items: title, scale, labels, and data.

When our graphs were complete, we answered the following questions:
1. How many people voted in all?
26 students voted in all.
2. Which sport was the favorite?
Soccer and volleyball tied at 10 each.
3. How many people like soccer and football all together?
15 people liked soccer and football in all.
4. How many more people liked football than baseball?
4 more people liked football than baseball
5. Based on the results of the graph, what did you learn?
I learned that soccer and volleyball got voted more than football and baseball.

We really enjoyed our math challenge and look forward to the next one. Please post a comment with any questions! :)
